Ahhh,
So most people who know me call me sort of an “Apple Evangelist”. I tend to recommend Macs, Apple gadgets, etc. over anything PC-based or related. So a good friend, my sister-in-law and a few others have asked me why I don’t have an iPhone? My nephew made a comment 6 months ago if I was getting an iPhone, because I always have every gadget before anybody else. Well, many reasons.
1) I already have AT&T (formerly Cingular Wireless). I have had them twice before and every single time I have had them I’ve had major billing problems. I’m kind of waiting AT&T and Apple out until an alternative network carrier comes into the picture.
2) Have you seen those bills? I saw a really funny video of one gal who got her 600 page phone bill in a box-prompting a broad condemnation of all the eco-tree huggers. I can’t say as I blame them-but my reason is pretty self-centered. I have to do a monthly expense report for my company. I don’t have the time to wade through a 600-page soft OR hard copy bill to itemize my calls. Yuucckk!!!
3) I’ve seen some reports about the roaming charges overseas with sending emails with attachments. One guy on a news report last night had a $6700 bill for a 8 day trip to Europe. Now I travel to Europe quite frequently for work and visiting family. I personally don’t think my company would be OK with a bill like that. Heck, I’m not OK with that.
4) I’m a CrackBerry addict. For someone who is approaching ‘middle-agedness’, I’m quite deft with a keypad that is only 2-inches wide. I can crank out an email with one hand no problem. This skill comes in quite handy for someone who talks with one hand while synchronously sending an email under the table in a meeting. I also like the fact that there is a broad range of carriers that offer the Blackberry phones.
5) The capacity is not favorable. Right now, I am already at about 3 TB for my music. I’m an avid collector of music and 8 GB-the highest capacity offered now is definitely no way to take around my music. Even if they offered 10 or 12 GB right now I probably wouldn’t buy it. Minimum would have to be 16-20 GB, but I would probably hold out for a while. One of the reasons I wouldn’t want that is because I don’t want to have to constantly manage playlists.
So I think my reasons are pretty well justified. If I’m sticking to my guns, its because I am. Even leaving my Blackberry accidentally outside on my lawn for my sprinkler to coat is not deterring me. My ‘B’ and ‘J’ key no longer work because of it. So, maybe, just maybe one of my family members wonders about why I am not using an iPhone and comes to this blog.
